I'm so excited because this is my first year attending. I'd like to know who else is attending and have you ever gone before. If so, let me know some of the highlights.

  • I'm like you - this'll be my first time as well and I'm excited too!
    • You are going to love it. I went last year and performed as well. It was great, lots of talent.

Get ready for a great show!

It was great to see other dancers as well. The workshops were awsome. I chose Lotus and Nabeela Shalimar, hope I spelled her name correctly, but they were fantastic. Shopping was good also.

I will not be able to go this year, because I will be attening the Miami Bellydance Convention later this year.

Enjoy and most of all have fun!
      • Hi, how was Boca? I know it's still going on, but wanted to know about Saturday night show.

Sorry I missed it this year.
        • I'm getting ready to head home from BOCA. I must first say that it was awesome to just be around tons of Black women bellydancing.

Saturday night's show was good! There was a nice variety of all styles of dancing. My favorites were Lotus and Tarik (who rocked the best light gage Afghani zills eva! I was totally mesmerized). I was also happy to finally see the NDC do their thing in person (I'd only watched videos on youtube), and shouts out to Amirah Bey who did her first cab solo! :) What a beautiful orange, and we cheered for you all the way!

All that said, it was a great show to watch and hope one year I'll be able to perform. :)
          • Oh, I did have a great time indeed and thank you Iona. It was such a pleasure meeting you Nayna from Charlotte. I knew who you two were right away from my communications with you through tribe. I did feel good knowing you two were out there cheering for me. That was the first cabaret piece I've choreographed on my own although I have performed that style of dance to others' choreography before. I hope to see you again soon and can't wait to cheer you on one day.
            • Hi! I'm Nina Amaya, and although I'm not black, the DNA tests say I am.... a little bit. Anyway, I'm just posting because if you are close enough to go to BOCA you might be close enough to dance at the monthly hafla I run: www.allseasonshafla.com There is an application page there.
After a recent show where all our dancers were about the same color, a rather pale one like me, I thought I better start posting for dancers some new places! I would like the audience to see all kinds of dancers. This is a hafla of, by and for the bellydance community- first time performers are welcome, and long time performers often dance to 'give back'. I especially like it when teachers send their students who are not quite ready for prime time- performing in front of an audience is how you Get Ready.

So far we have performing in September:
              Carey
              Trillian
              Noura
Atef Hassan and Hany (hey, at least we have guys!)
              Nina Amaya, Towson, MD
              Banat al-Beled
              Latifa

July's show will be awesome- we have a live band!!
              Shems, Baltimore, MD
              Naimah, Baltimore, MD
              Berna of Khafif, Pittsburgh, PA
              Rom Deussen, St. George,Utah
              Zarifa, Gaithersburg, MD
              Basema, Gelsomina and Janaiya
              Kaoru and Kimberly, B’more, MD
              Nina Amaya, Towson, MD
              Belly Dance Delight, B’more, MD

Please consider coming- absolutely delicious Indian food buffet!
