Hey, I'm new to this website. I've been studying (researching) and practising bellydance for some time now (over a year). I currently live in Atlanta, GA. I love watching performances of various styles (I love watching old egyptian, turkish, etc. movies which have bellydancing scenes in them sometimes for inspiration). However I RARELY see clips of black women bellydancing. I know we are out there!!! So far I've seen 2 clips from this tribe.
Does anyone know of anything that goes on in Atlanta? (P.S. I live in Morrow actually but work in Atlanta).

Welcome to the group. There are lots of clips out there I have a youtube channel www.youtube.com/parveneh where there are a number of dancers and quite a few black women among them. Many of the ladies here have youtube clips as well. The wonderful women on this tribe hail from many parts of the U.S. as well as beyond and I am sure somebody will be able to put you in touch with activities and such in your area.

I felt the same way when I started dancing.... where are all the sistas? Well you can find them here. And there are more than you know out there! Join some of the tribes that I have and you will see.
I live in Honolulu, and although this is multi-cultral over here there are only a couple of black dancers. I've been taking lesson going on 2 yrs now and have only started dancing this year with the troupe. There is a rush about being the Nubian Goddess outhere that we all can share!

11/05I dont know what is going on in your town but if you ever make the trip to Vegas let me know. We have a huge and very active bellydance community.

Yes there are more of us out there than we think, it's a beautiful thing.
The BOCA festival in the Maryland, DC area is great and you will find lots of us there as well.

11/21I'm in Atlanta too. I know there are several black teachers in the Atlanta area(like mine). There's a lot of shows that go on here. I just check the Btlanta Bellydance tribe for that stuff. (I'm performing in a couple of weeks in Marietta) -

I'm in Washington, DC. There's tons of beautiful belly dancers of color here. My belly dance home is saharadance.com, and we have plenty of color and diversity. There's also one of my favorite dancers in baltimore, Lotus Niraja, and her troupe the NDC. I had the pleasure of meeting the ladies of BOCA Philly a couple of weeks ago.
